Using Linux in a Small Business Environment

If you own a business, and are thinking about expanding and adding additional computers, there are a few questions that you should ask before making your final decision:

  • Is Internet, or local network security important to you?
  • Do you have many Microsoft Office documents that you need to share, or create?
  • Do you already have an investment in a current Windows Network?
  • Do you want to save money?

If you answered 'yes' to most of these, it may be time to examine your options regarding Linux-based computers. Though most people have heard of Linux, the only thing that they may know about it is that it is a free operating system. What many people don't know is that Linux has become a powerful force for many business environments, and once configured, it is as easy for novices to use as Windows. Linux offers a rich and powerful graphical interface, and has many advantages over Windows from a large number of critical standpoints.
